Brief book review

I recently finished reading Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen. I'm glad I didn't buy it. I thought it was mostly fluff, a mixture of adolescent humor, dissing her family and trashing her heritage with a few of her insights (nothing new) thrown in at the end.

Perhaps I'm too hard on her. Perhaps my response says more about me than about her. So be it.

Anybody want my copy? First come first served. It was given to me and I'll be happy to pass it on!

Thanks for the review. I've been wanting to read it since the NY Times review, which as I recall was mainly positive. But then they were looking at it from an outsider's perspective. Maybe the best thing about it is the title. If no one else has asked, I would be happy to reimburse your postage.

Hi, Crockhead! I just read the glowing NYT review. Made me feel like an old grump. Maybe I am. You may enjoy the book a lot. Yes, I laughed a few times, but I soon wearied of her brand of humor. She had some colorful metaphors. Some comments were spot on, some weren't very kind and made me cringe. She was recovering from some tough stuff. She survived. Lots of people have enjoyed her work. So, good for her. Just not my style at this juncture in time, I guess I could say. Thanks for responding.
